You know the classic templates for an intranet? Home page, one or two versions of Nav page, Content page, and News page. In Region Skåne, we are splitting the content page into two different templates—”the service page”, and “the inspiration page”. Right now, we will use them in the special section for managers. Intranet manager, you’re NOT the document manager
You’re the Intranet Manager, so of course you’re also responsible for all the invoices in the organization? Do I hear you say “no”?
But all the contracts of employment – surly that is your responsibility to handle, store, and archive? Again “no”?
We can all see that invoices are the responsibility of the Finance department, within an accounting software tool. And contracts are often stored in a Human Recources Management System and governed by HR specialists. No one would ever ask the Intranet manager to fix this.

Let the end-users have the last say on the intranet content structure
An eternal battle for the intranet team is the content structure.
Every information sender and stakeholder has an opinion about where a page should be in the navigation. Often, you hear things like “The HR manager thinks this page should be a new section tab!”, “We demand that you use exactly this word as a label and it must be put directly under ‘Self service’!”, or “I have decided this must be in the ‘Governing documents’ section!”. Supporting managers (and other job roles) on the intranet
One of the things we’ve built on our new Region Skåne intranet is the possibility to target different internal job roles with unique content. This follows the Step Two model for segmentation of local content (content relevant for some, but not all, in the organisation).
